We started day three by meeting up with our tour guide Francis McCaffery and heading to Newgrange to check out the 5,000 year old passage tomb. While we could take photos outside of the tomb, we were not permitted to take photos inside the tomb. The passageway and tomb inside were much smaller than I would have imagined based on the size of the exterior mound.
After Newgrange, we quickly visited the Slane Castle before spending quite a while exploring the nearby Hill of Slane. We had the whole place to ourselves.
Next up was a private history tour of Belfast in Northern Ireland from Tom, a native of Belfast that lived through the unrest in the late 1960’s where his family home was burned down when he was six years old. Tom took us around Belfast to show us the various sights on this educational political tour.
After the political tour, we checked into our posh hotel and found a place nearby for dinner.
